Written tutorial
Creating a splashart file (Gimp)
I would recommend to load in the original splashart (/assets/characters/yourchampion/skins/skinx/) and work on-top of that, if not: create a new image with the dimensions 308 x 560 px.
Then load in your new custom image and place it wherever you want it. Keep in mind that the bottom area of the splashart has an overlay from the loadingscreen HUD borders and doesn’t display your image fully (see Infos).
Now resize the layer to image size.
Right click your image layer, select “Layer Effects” and then “Inner Shadow”.
Copy my settings in the following pop-up window, it matches Riot’s original border quite well.
Now export your loadingscreen as .dds and replace the original one in your files.
Creating an in-game circle file (Gimp)
Import the original HUD circle.
Place your image as you like again.
Now right-click the original, bottom layer and select “Alpha to selection”.
Press CTRL+I or go to “Select-Invert” to invert your selection.
Take the eraser tool and go over the whole image, it will only remove the outer edge.
Then deselect everything (“Select-None” or CTRL+SHIFT+A)
Resize the top layer to image again.
Now apply another “Inner Shadow” effect and copy those settings. It is really subtle.
Then save it as .dds again and replace the original HUD circle.
Creating a splashart file (Photoshop with template)
Load the “Champion_Loadingscreen” template.
Drag and drop in your image and place it however you want.
“Save As..” and then save as .dds and replace the original splashart file.
Creating an in-game circle file (Photoshop with template)
Load the “Champion_Circle” template.
Drag and drop in your image and place it however you want.
“Save As..” and then save as .dds and replace the original HUD circle file.
